ExLibris For Mac

Designed to help you keep track of your books collection, ExLibris (formerly known as Ex-Libris) is a fairly intuitive Mac app that is able to store details about each manuscript and allows you to perform basic searches.

Ex-Libris comes with a simple and organized user interface: the main window is separated in two areas, allowing you to easily browse your database, while the top toolbar provides access to all the frequently used tools.

To add a new entry all you have to do is press the “New” button placed in the top left corner of the Ex-Libris main window. The app will open a new panel where you can input details about your book: Title, Author, ISBN, Publisher, Place of publication, Published, Pages, Binding, Category, Condition, URL, Tags, if you have read it, if its one of your favorites, if its on your wishlist or other personal notes.

In the same panel you also have the possibility to keep track of your tradings: you can store the acquisition price, date and store together with the selling price and the customer, if it is the case. Last but not least, you can attach an image file representing the book’s front cover.

To simply the data input process, you can use the “Online Request” function which can be accessed via the top Ex-Libris toolbar. Input the book title in the search bar and Ex-Libris will automatically populate the fields using information found online. Of course, the data will remain fully editable.

The same panel allows you to launch the Barcode Scanner tool: you can use the iSight camera to scan the barcode and then Ex-Libris will search for the information online using the code as reference.

All things considered, Ex-Libris can prove to be a great companion if you are looking for a simple solution for cataloging your books collection.
