Easy Find For Mac

Spotlight does a great job but the small Easy Find application can prove to be quite useful if you want to scan specific locations or file types. Moreover, the Easy Find searches can be further improved by applying additional filters.

The Easy Find interface is quite simple and very easy to use: the main area is reserved for the results, while the left panel enables you to customize the search.

On top of the window you can view a toolbar that includes easy access buttons for most of the app’s features. Right beneath the toolbar, in a simple search bar, you can input the text string you are looking for.

Specifically, Easy Find allows you to search for both files and folders, but also enables you to scan only files or only folders. What’s more, the app is able to examine the file contents.

Other Easy Find filters allow you to specify which operators should be included (all words, any word, phrase or Unix-Wildcards) or the Comparison mode (ignore case, ignore umlauts or fuzzy). You can choose to include the package contents and the invisible files and folders in your search.

In the Easy Find Settings panel you get to indicate the file types that should be processed when you are analyzing the file contents. The app comes with six different fields and a collection of default lists, but you can easily input new file types and create your own rules.

Once you have found what where you looking for, you can decide to have the file revealed in a Finder window or you can preview its content via the Quick Look plug-in.

To conclude, Easy Find is a fairly easy to use application that includes a plethora of search customization tools that will improve your results. The app is able to detect text strings included in the file content which can be useful in numerous situations.
