    Docktopus description

Get useful information, access items and control applications from your Dock

Docktopus is a Mac OS X Dock enhancement that gives you instant access to useful information and powerful new commands through your Dock icons.

Similar to the way Apple Mail uses a badge to display the number of unread messages from its Dock icon, Docktopus allows you to overlay custom badges on your Dock icons.

An application's CPU and Memory usage, a folder's contents, new messages waiting in a specific Mail account and available disk space are just a few examples of the kinds of data Docktopus badges can display.

In addition, Docktopus can be configured to display a Launcher badge on any or all Dock icons.

This badge acts as a pop-up menu and can run QuicKeys Shortcuts, AppleScripts, and Automator Workflows. Recently opened files and user-defined collections of files and folders can be added to this pop-up menu making the Dock a more powerful companion in your daily work.

How does it work? Docktopus allows you to place objects called "badges" onto four hot spots overlaying each of your Dock icons.

Simply drag a desired badge onto the corner of a Dock icon; the chosen corner now displays the new badge whenever that icon appears in the Dock.

Certain badges can be assigned universally (such as the Item Size, Memory and CPU Meter) to automatically appear on any or all application icons that are in the Dock.

There are also application-specific badges designed to enhance applications through their Dock icons, such as the iTunes Control badge which supplies current track info and allows you to control iTunes right from the iTunes Dock icon.

What can Docktopus do for me? Docktopus makes your Dock more versatile by adding a layer of helpful information through badges that you choose and configure as you see fit.

Imagine your hard drive icon displaying a pie chart of free disk space or viewing your daily iCal Events directly from a Dock icon. Docktopus lets you get information and control your applications right from where you work every day, your Dock.

Here are some key features of "Docktopus":

    · CPU Meter - The CPU Meter badge shows the CPU usage of the application the badge is placed on.
    · Drive Space - The Drive Space badge displays a pie chart showing utilization of a drive.
    · Folder Count - The Folder Count badge provides a count of all items inside a folder.
    · iCal Event Peek - The iCal Event Peek badge displays the calendar events for today. By hovering the mouse over this badge another window is shown that displays the day's events for specified iCal Calendars.
    · Item Size - The Item Size badge shows the amount of disk space used by the item on which the badge is placed.
    · iTunes Control - The iTunes Control badge allows control of iTunes and shows information about the currently playing track. By hovering the mouse over this badge another window is shown that shows information about the currently playing track.
    · Mail Peek - The Mail Peek badge shows the number of unread messages in specified accounts. By hovering the mouse over this badge another window is shown that displays information (the message subject, sender and e-mail account it was sent to) about the five newest messages and has controls for quickly marking junk e-mail. This badge can be edited to specify which accounts' messages should be shown.
    · Memory - The memory badge shows the RAM usage of the application the badge is placed on.
    · Launch Menu - The Launch Menu badge places a customizable pop-up menu on a Dock icon. This badge can be edited to show applications, files, and folders in its menu. Also when placed on an application Dock icon, Launch Menu badges will automatically show QuicKeys® Shortcuts scoped to that application and recent files for that application (recent files may not be able to be displayed for all applications).

    Requirements:

    · Any Intel Macintosh is sufficient
    · PowerPC 500 MHz (1.0 GHz or faster if Dock magnification is enabled)
    · Mac OS X Accessibility system enabled

    Limitations:

    · 30 days trial period.
