DisplayDroid is a streamlined and quite useful application that enables you to turn on or off certain OS X features when an external display is either connected or disconnected to and from your Mac.
It does all this by detecting the the presence of an external display and by executing JavaScript or AppleScripts that are enabled within its interface.
Once installed on your Mac, DisplayDroid will seamlessly integrate itself into the status bar and can be quickly summoned with a simple click on its item.
DisplayDroid’s interface is represented by a useful script editor toolbar that enables you to set breakpoints, show results by line, run or compile the script, as well as clear all its content, a script editor in the middle, while on the bottom you can find a console and the Presets menu.
If you are thinking that writing scripts is a tad too complicated, then rest assured, because DisplayDroid’s probably best feature is the fact that it bundles several built-in presets.
Its small list of default presets include scripts that enable you to turn your Mac’s Bluetooth on or off, to automatically detect display resolution, to turn notification on or off, and to turn the email service off, as well as to write any message when a display is connected.
Another plus is the fact that DisplayDroid provides you with the possibility to load your own scripts from your Mac’s hard-drive, or, even better, import and share them with other DisplayDroid fans via its dedicated support community.
As expected, DisplayDroid’s script editor comes with powerful error checking and debugging tools, as well as with a feature that automatically switches to the language your are using while compiling or running scripts.
Built for OS X users who using various display configurations on a daily basis, DisplayDroid is a straightforward application that makes it easy for anyone to automate the process of turning certain system features on or off when external displays are connected to one's Mac.
