Data Extractor is an aptly named application that aims to speed up and automate the process of finding and collecting specific data items from a large range of documents. It features a tabbed layout that guides you through several steps before your data is extracted.

When setting up a job, you can select either a document or folder as the source. For the latter, you can then specify which file types will be processed, and the app will extract data from all matching files according to the rules you have defined.

More advanced filtering is also possible, based on file names and even their contents. It’ll take a while to set everything up, but the filters should then exclude and non-relevant data.

Once the files themselves have been filtered, you can determine when a new record will be created in the output database. This can happen when a file is processed, when specific text is encountered, or when a new line is found.

Next, the rules for actually extracting data can be very complex, allowing you to control exactly what is collected. Multiple rules can be set up to account for several types of records.

After going through the initial steps for your selected data sources, the app will let you know if any errors are found, and if not, the extraction can proceed. If can be run again as necessary, and jobs can be saved for later use.

To speed things up in the future, you can also head directly to the Run tab and drop sources in the designated area. They will be processed according to your active rules.
