Cakebrew For Mac

Cakebrew is a straightforward and open source graphical user interface for Homebrew, a highly popular macOS package management system designed to help you install both command line and GUI-based utiltiies and apps from a Terminal window.

Although Homebrew is designed to simplify the installation of free and open source command-line applications, Cakebrew can further simplify this process by providing a simple and clean interface from within which you can install, uninstall and upgrade various formulae.

Cakebrew also aims to encourage users afraid to use the Terminal but still need to use a small app or tool only available via Homebrew. Thanks to Cakebrew, you can perform the usual task like updating or finding issues.

From Cakebrew’s main window, you can update Homebrew and view all your installed formulae and view which ones require an update. Moreover, you can obtain additional information about the selected command-line tool, uninstall it or visit its website.

Besides the location of the tool and version, you can also view the dependencies list as well as the possible conflicts that might appear.

Thanks to the All Formulae tab, you can check the list with all available formulae and install the ones you need. Although you can type in the name of a formula to find it, it would have been more useful and intuitive if Cakebrew featured a built-in search form capable to filter the displayed results.

By running the Doctor, you can take advantage of the Homebrew's feature capable to detect the most common cause of errors. The Preferences slide sheet helps you provide your proxy settings along with the custom path to your custom installed Homebrew.

It is also worth mentioning that Cakebrew does not install Homebrew for you and you need to install it by yourself using the detailed instructions available on Homebrew's website.
