System Monitor is a self-explanatory macOS application that enables you to check your Mac’s activity in real-time.
Moreover, System Monitor is capable to constantly retrieve up-to-date technical data and display the process load, CPU temperature, storage space, RAM usage, disk activity, network traffic and more.
What is more, all the above mentioned data is displayed using graphs, pie charts and numbers in the menu bar in order to minimize the amount of required screen space.
On top of that, System Monitor can simulate the flickering activity lights of the network sockets or hard drives. The activity lights can be displayed either in color or in unobtrusive black and white in order to seamless integrate into the design of OS X.
By clicking on either of the displayed graphs, you can reveal additional information about the monitored component or activity. Hence, the disk and network activity shows you the monitored network interfaces and hard disks, the Processors graph helps you view the CPU load.
The Sensors make it easy for your to view the fan speed along with the temperature of the monitor components, the Memory graph helps you view the amount of active, inactive and free RAM, the Volumes offer you detailed information about the available storage space and the Network Interfaces display the incoming and outgoing transfer speed, total amount of sent and received packages, as well as other related data.
Moreover, System Monitor offers you the option to change the temperature measurement system from Celsius to Fahrenheit or Kelvin and allows you to switch from the classic memory measurement system to the standard or Kibi units.
You can change the width of history graphs and rearrange the order in which items are displayed in the menu bar.
What's new in System Monitor 6.1 Build 240223:
- Added new layout option for the menu bar to suppress labels in small two-line display items. This can further reduce the necessary widths on small screens.
- Added workaround for an issue of macOS 14 Sonoma where the operating system could prevent that the current status of individual IPv6 addresses is shown as help tags (tool tips).
- The preference pane to control layout settings for menu-bar items was redesigned.
- Better help tags for the available menu-bar items of the processor load section.
