AudioMate for Mac
The built in OS X control options when it comes to audio devices is quite limited: you can adjust the input and output volume, the sound balance, and eventually make a few other modifications, depending on the supported controls.
AudioMate is a small status bar menu app designed to help you adjust the devices sample rate, or the master volume, to quickly change the default input and output devices, or to change the clock source. The app is also able to display notifications if any of the parameters for any of your audio devices changes.
Minimalist app that can display details about your audio sources in the status bar
Upon launch, AudioMate places a small icon in your status bar that is able to display information about up to 2 parameters, for a user specified device: via the Preferences window you can choose to see the device’s master volume and the sample rate, the clock source and the sample rate, or just the sample rate.
Once you activate the AudioMate main panel, you can see all the available audio devices: you can quickly adjust the sample rate for each one, or open the device’s Settings panel and also change the master volume and the clock source.
Keep track of the audio devices status by receiving notifications each time their status changes
By default, the AudioMate will display a system notification each time an audio device is added or removed, if the mute state changes, or if the volume, sample rate, or clock source are adjusted. These rules apply for all detected devices, regardless if their status is displayed in the AudioMate icon or not.
Further customization options include the possibility to change the status bar color scheme, or to adjust the manner in which the sample rate is adjusted (by using a slider bar or a drop down menu).
