Sesame is a free Mac OS X application designed to automatically lock and unlock your Mac computer when you are away. The Sesame software app requires that you carry a key fob which can be purchased from atama.io. Basically, the key fob communicates with your Mac via Bluetooth and the Sesame app.

Sesame can be of great use to Mac owners who want to protect sensitive data and who frequently leave their computer for just a few minutes. It is great for coffee places, schools, campuses, etc. Moreover, the configuration is effortless and can be up and running in a matter of seconds.

After copying Sesame to your Applications folder and opening it, you will see a menu bar icon that opens the app’s preferences. It lets you enable the connection with the key fob and provides an option to require pressing the button on your key fob. This option enhances the security of your Mac a little bit.

The distance between you and your computer at which Sesame locks it is of about a few meters. You can check the signal strength (low, medium or high) which is based on the level of obstruction between the key fob and your Mac. The lower the level, the better the results.

In the Preferences window, you can start calibrating the mechanism, view the Sesame status, signal strength and the locking signal strength. An additional option is to unpair Sesame if you no longer want it to control your Mac.

To summarize, Sesame is yet another Bluetooth-based auto-locking solution for Mac OS X. This app category seems to have gained many fans this year, and for good reason. Sesame protects your Mac’s data from prying eyes, works seamlessly and requires no advanced computer skills.
