Keep your Mac awake when you need it, either by manually starting sessions or by automating them based on a wide range of parameters. #Prevent Sleep #Disable Sleep #Keep Awake #Awake #Sleep #Display
Keeping your Mac awake at the right times is difficult without disabling sleep mode altogether, which is not a good idea if you value your MacBook’s battery life. To set things up according to your particular preferences, you’re going to need a third-party app.
Amphetamine is the most popular app of this kind, and for good reason. Despite being completely free, it offers more functionality than a lot of paid apps, and it’s remarkably easy to use.
Even though it’s very powerful, Amphetamine is perfect even if you want a dead-simple keep awake tool. You don’t have to use any of the additional functionality, or even open any of the app’s menus.
If all you want is to keep your Mac awake, simply right-click the app’s menu bar icon. A session will be started using the default parameters, and your Mac will stay awake until you right-click the icon again. The icon will indicate if a session is currently active.
Of course, if you want to get your hands dirty, you can customize everything to a high degree. You can set the session’s duration, allow display sleep or screensavers, disable sleep while a certain app is running, allow sleep when the laptop’s lid is closed, and much more.
Automation is a particularly interesting feature. You can set up triggers that automatically keep your Mac awake when they are activated. For example, when you connect to a certain Wi-Fi network, while an external display is connected, while audio output devices are in use, etc.
It really is a wonder that an app as good as Amphetamine is still free. It has everything you need, and then some, but you don’t have to trouble yourself with any of its advanced features if you don’t need them. Anyone can start using it with just a single click, and then check out its extended functionality should they have need of it.
