Rsync is a popular UNIX-based application that has a file synchronization and transfer capabilities, and designed to work by copying files between two computers connected to the same local network.
Acrosync is a rsync client designed to offer an alternative to popular cloud synchronization applications, by backing-up and syncing files from one computer to another on the same LAN in no time whatsoever and with minimal to no effort.
Because Acrosync has a built-in ssh client of its own, it does not need a password for login purposes and, also, it doesn’t create a separate external process in order to run the rsync program.
Acrosync has a straightforward and easy to get along with user interface and makes the process of synchronizing files between computers very easy because it doesn’t need server-side configuration.
It's also important to mention that Acrosync offers support for synchronization with QNAP and Synology NAS boxes, and also works fine with most rsync storage providers like rsync.net, HiDrive, and Strongspace.
It could be argued that Acrosync offers full-time synchronization and backup features, but fact is that you can use the application in three different modes: Download, Upload, and Backup.
If you choose to select the Download mode, the files from the remote directory will be downloaded to your local directory once, while if you choose the Upload mode, you will activate a one time sync process between your local directory and the remote directory.
A more comprehensive feature is the Backup sync mode, that provides syncing of your local directory to a remote location at pre-defined intervals of time, ranging from 5 minutes up to 1 hour.
Taking all things into consideration, Acrosync proved itself to be a useful utility capable of backing up your important data without the need for server software or for cloud synchronization apps.
