Look up Mac OS X errors and definitions in an offline database to fix various issues, using this simple tool for Mini vMac, Basilisk II and SheepShaver. #Study error #View error #Error tracker #Error #Viewer #Tracker
System Error X helps identify and interpret OS errors, especially when dealing with emulators of previous Macintosh models, like Mini vMac, Basilisk II and SheepShaver.
It aids in both micro and macro troubleshooting, ranging from legal and code, to hardware, miscellaneous matters and whatnot. It's very useful for beginners who just started dabbling with the OS or programming in general, as it helps them broaden their technical vocabulary and coding skills.
A nifty thing about System Error X is that it's on the fly and does not require an active Internet connection. You can run it directly, as it doesn't require installation, meaning it won't leave registry entries in your system or app cluster tab. The tool is pretty up-to-date with the newer OS versions, so it should provide accurate troubleshooting.
Judging from the release notes, credits and a couple of tabs in its frontend, you may be led to believe that the application contains the definitions of thousands of error entries, and it's not like that, as the count does not raise that far.
The range of positive and negative codes is displayed in the main window, which actually stand for the error IDs and not for the amount of total errors available. According to the developer, the application is based on System Errors DA.
Inside the program you'll meet tabs with positive, negative and uncommon codes. It also contains a handy slider for calibrating text size.
Here are several examples of positive codes: 51 dsBadSlotInt ("unserviceable slot interrupt"), 102 dsOldSystem ("System is too old for this ROM"), and 103 ds32BitMode ("booting in 32-bit on a 24-bit sys").
Fullscreen isn't exactly fullscreen, as it does not stretch to fit the entire desktop. Instead, it's just framed in the center of a black background.
You can definitely consider using this software utility. Aside from its technical and structural shortcomings, you can have a database of definitions for those pesky errors that you may encounter, so that you can facilitate an overall smooth experience. It's lightweight and doesn't need a working Internet connection, ideal for delicate situations.
