Customize the step size, acceleration, pulse or animation time for your Mac's scrolling function via an unobtrusive status bar menu app. #Customize scrolling #Personalize scrolling function #Scrolling customizer #Scrolling #Customizer #Customize
Via the macOS System Preferences window, in the Mouse panel, you get to change both the scrolling direction and the speed. However, if you are still having issues with the scrolling responsiveness, SmoothScroll is a simple app that can help you push things even further.
Once installed, the app applies new settings for the scrolling step size, animation time, acceleration delta, acceleration scale and pulse scale. You can view and change the new values via the app's Preferences window.
Naturally, you do not have to preserve the SmoothScroll default values of these parameters. If you need further clarifications, press the Help button in the Preferences window and you will see on mouse over a short description for each setting.
Other personalization options include the possibility to ease the animation, to toggle the standard wheel direction, or to bounce back from edges.
Since SmoothScroll resides in your status bar, you can quickly access all of its functions via the unobtrusive menulet. Note that the app automatically applies all the changes system-wide, but you can choose to disable them for the currently active app, or for all installed utilities.
During our test, we have noticed that, when dealing with the currently active application, in some cases, the SmoothScroll custom rules have not been disabled by checking the appropriate option in the SmoothScroll status bar menulet.
Nonetheless, when disabling the custom rules for all utilities, the change was instant. Of course, you can achieve the same effect by just quitting the application altogether.
To conclude, SmoothScroll provides a more refined control over the mouse scrolling function which can be of great help if you are experiencing glitches that cannot be fixed by simply adjusting the scrolling speed via the System Preferences settings.
