The user can set the default apps that are to handle various file types or protocols within macOS via the System Preferences or even through app’s configuration panels in some cases, but there is no centralized management solution. RCDefaultApp is a small yet powerful System Preferences pane that helps you control which apps are employed when connecting to the internet, accessing media, launching URLs and so on.
For your convenience, the RCDefaultApp Preferences pane comes with a built-in installation system that deploys the appropriate files to your Library. Just launch the .prefPane that you find in the archive, and you will be able to see the respective panel in your System Preferences window.
RCDefaultApp delivers extensive over the default system behavior in different cases and keeps the customization options organized into multiple tabs: Internet, Media, Apps, URLs, Extensions, and UTIs.
In the Internet panel, RCDefaultApp allows you to set the default web browser, email client, newsreader, FTP app, RSS reader, or IM application. The Media panel, on the other hand, allows you to specify which utilities should be used to open the camera when connected, music, video, or image file, or different types of CDs.
RCDefaultApp can also assign certain apps to URLs used by the system or by various installed apps. The pane provides a list of file extensions together with the currently associated app (which you can change) and also provides details about which extensions can be handled by a particular app.
RCDefaultApp is an unobtrusive solution for changing the default apps assigned to certain file extensions, protocols, or URLs. The best part is that all the customization options are available in the same place, so you don’t have to waste any time.
