Indigo is a comprehensive and streamlined OS X application that promises to make it easy to control Z-Wave, INSTEON and X10 compatible devices using your Mac.

A list of all Indigo supported hardware and compatible automation technologies can be found on the Supported Home Automation Hardware page, on the app’s website.

Standalone or server home automation suite

Moreover, Indigo can be used either as a standalone application or in a client/server mode. However, in order to use it as the later, you will first have to run the Indigo installer on the main Mac (which will be considered to be the server) and start the server to which the home automation interface hardware will connect.

After you start the Indigo Server, you will be able to access it remotely from other Macs using either the Indigo Client, a web browser, or an iOS device running Indigo Touch, the mobile version of the Indigo client software.

Control and secure your home remotely

With the help of Indigo you can completely automate your entire home if you have the necessary compatible devices. This way, you will be able to save money by reducing your home’s energy and water usage, secure your home from intrusion and control your device remotely via e-mail or with your iPhone or iPad.

Furthermore, Indigo enables you to create complex automation profiles based on a vast array of schedulers and triggers, profiles that will allow Indigo to manage all compatible devices without the need of your intervention.

Intuitive and simple to use automation rules builder

If you can use the rule based filter builder in Apple’s Mail to create complex and efficient e-mail filters, you will also be able to effortlessly generate your own custom automation profiles with the help of Indigo’s built-in rule builder.

As an additional advantage, Indigo provides you with a detailed status of all controlled automation devices in your home so that you can always know the exact state of your home, at all times.

User-oriented and streamlined home automation solution

Everything considered, you should definitely give Indigo a try if you want a user-friendly solution for automating your home using a combination of INSTEON, Z-Wave and X10 compatible devices.
