HyperSwitch For Mac

macOS comes with a built-in app switcher that can be activated by using the Command + Tab hotkey, but the user does not have any control over the utilities that are to be included in the bar or the hotkey.

HyperSwitch is an alternative solution that performs mostly the same function but allows the user to decide on various details, such as the windows that re to be included, the delay period, the appearance, and so on.

Right off the bat, you need to include the HyperSwitch application to the list of utilities that have the permission to control your Mac. You can do that via the System Preference’s Security and Privacy panel.

The next step is to open the HyperSwitch Preferences window and decide if you want the app to run in the background, in which case the tool will also be included in the list of login items.

By default, you get to activate the HyperSwitch window switcher by using either the Option + Tab hotkey (the bar will include all windows) or Option + § / ‘ to see only the current app’s windows. Note that you can get to personalize both hotkeys.

The HyperSwitch switcher can also include windows from other spaces or screens, and the user can decide if the bar should be displayed on the active screen, on the main screen, or on the screen that currently holds the pointer.

HyperSwitch can provide a full-size window preview (you can also adjust the default thumbnail size), can delay certain actions, and comes with different interface themes.

Note that you can deactivate both the HyperSwitch Dock and menu bar icon, and run the utility in the background, as a service.

To sum up, HyperSwitch offers you the possibility to quickly navigate through your windows and review their content before bringing them upfront.

The HyperSwitch utility resembles the default Command + Tab functionality, except that the user has more control over the items included in the bar, you get to preview the window’s content, and specify which screen should contain the switcher bar.
