FreeMan is a lightweight and unobtrusive OS X application that enables you to monitor the RAM usage of your Mac and free up inactive memory with a single click.

Moreover, the FreeMan app provides a compact menu bar panel that includes a list and pie chart, which show the free, wired, active and inactive memory values.

The pie chart makes it easier to visually check the current memory distribution and the list displays a numerical representation. Each category has a different color: free is green, wired is orange, active is yellow and inactive is blue. From the panel, you can also access buttons to free up inactive memory or open the settings.

Thus, FreeMan allows you to free up memory with a single click. Additional features include the ability to automatically free up memory if the inactive RAM has reached a predefined threshold (0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0 GB and so on) that can be set in the Preferences window.

In addition to this, the FreeMan application can notify you when the inactive memory has reached the predefined threshold. Other features include the ability to adjust the refresh interval using a slider (from 1 to 30 seconds, the default being 5 seconds) and a custom global hotkey for the “Free Now” function.

Like many other apps, FreeMan can be set to launch at login and to display only the menu bar panel, a Dock icon, or both. Changing the colors of the memory info icons within FreeMan's user interface is also allowed, which makes the settings of this app quite flexible.

All things considered, FreeMan is yet another low-priced RAM monitoring and purging tool that delivers both an unobtrusive interface and a good number of easily customizable settings.

FreeMan's highlights are its ability to manually or automatically free up memory, the intuitive way it displays memory distribution and the global hot-key.
