FlyPath is an innovative file browser and file manager designed with minimum number of features for maximum amount of functionality. If you've seen NeXT's Workspace Manager, you can detect quite a lot of (intentional) similarity between it and FlyPath.

· Shelf
First, there is shelf. Non-crippled, real, honest shelf. Which can be used as shortcut to file-system, as drag&drop destination, as drag&drop source, or as intermediate drag&drop step when moving or copying multiple files. Or you can open files on the shelf by double-clicking them.

· Navigation Bar
Then there is Navigation Bar. No more guessing. You always know where you are in file-system hierarchy.
Want to move up in file-system hierarchy? Explore parent folders of your current selection? Simply drag one of the sliders (the one that is closer to your mouse cursor) and there you are. It also serves as drag&drop source and destination for all file operations (in co-operation with shelf if necessary). And double-clicking the icon opens the file. And finally, how do you rename a file? You click its filename in navigation bar and edit it . No more positioning your cursor just the right way over filename and double-click waiting and erroneous file-open operations.

· Browser
Move fast. Free yourself of ingrained fear of mouse clicking and dragging in browser view – browser view is for browsing and selecting only! Except for double-click which opens selected files, there is no other operation which can be performed inadvertently in browser. You can speedily click and drag to select without fear of renaming or moving or doing some other dangerous action.
All files (including invisible ones) in folders are displayed to give you maximum information combined with minimum distraction. Folders are displayed at the top of the list, and folder filenames are in bold. Hidden files (e.g. .htaccess) are always shown at the bottom, and their filenames are gray . You can also optionally group files by kind (see Preferences).

You can see inside packages by clicking Show As Folder shortcut icon or selecting corresponding menu item. Or inversely check the folder information by clicking Show Inspector shortcut icon or selecting corresponding menu item. Also, keyboard navigation is supported in browser. You can move around by using arrows or typing initial letters of filenames, and files can be opened by pressing return key. File information is always displayed in Inspector with all the relevant pieces of information

· Alternative Open Application
In many cases, single document type (e.g. HTML or image) has one application for viewing (e.g. Safari or Preview) and one application for editing (e.g. GoodPage or PhotoShop). How do you perform your work in such circumstances? Well, by adding the Alternative Open Application in Preferences and then clicking its icon shortcut . If there are many eligible applications for a single document in the Preferences list of alternative applications, the first one according to the order in Preferences list will be chosen and its icon will be displayed.

· Shortcuts
And there is more speed sweetness. For many actions there is no need to do anything but click on shortcut icon which appears when you move mouse over a filename in browser view.

· Fly-Over Mode
If you want to explore file-system, there is Fly-Over Mode. Just click on its shortcut or select its menu item, and you can move around the filesystem by moving your mouse without clicking. When you position the mouse over the coloured rectangle, the FlyPath will display contents of the folder. In this way you can browse through folders really fast.

· Consolidated Open With
In case you need to change which application opens some document or document type, there is consolidated Open With functionality in Inspector . Simple, non-ambiguous, just the way we like it.

· Slimmed Archiving
There is additional Archive Without Metadata action which does not keep those dot-files .XYZ, e.g. when sending archive to users on other operating systems.

· Working Together
There are things that you cannot currently do in FlyPath such as burning a CD. Or there are occasions when other applications select files in Finder (e.g. Safari for downloaded files). We acknowledge the Finder and other applications by offering commands to reveal application selection in FlyPath by using services (menu Reveal In FlyPath) or hot-key (Command-F1) or just by dragging file icon and dropping it over FlyPath icon in dock. And we offer the reverse for the Finder – FlyPath has command Reveal In Finder, which will reveal current FlyPath selection in Finder. Also, at the first run, FlyPath will read Finder's sidebar information and transfer its contents onto your shelf.

· Usage Tip
FlyPath is designed to run with one big main window most of the time (the secondary windows' shelf state is not persistent). All of the actions can be performed within one window, since shelf can be used as intermediary step. Experience suggests there is little need for additional windows. For avoiding Finder window pop-ups when dealing with disk images or removable media, the best solution is to hide Finder while working with FlyPath.
