Disk LED is a minimalist application that can display the current status of all your drives in a summarized manner, via indicators that are placed in your status bar menu. The app can be used to monitor both internal and external drives and provides a wide collection of indicator designs to choose from.

The first time when you launch the app, Disk LED will scan for all available disks and places an icon in the status bar for each one: the current disk status is expressed by different colors. You can easily stop or start monitoring a device by checking its name in the Disk LED items list.

To further customize the app’s behavior you must navigate to the Disk LED Preferences window. You are able to adjust the refresh interval for the disks (going from 0.1 to 0.5 seconds) or for the SMART monitor (going from 5 to 30 minutes).

Disk LED allows you to see the activity for each device separately or summarized for all disks. In the first case you can also dissociate between optical and removable disks and you can add extra space between the icons.

The application allows you to use your own custom set for the menu bar icons but also includes a wide collection of built in designs: flat / simple / beveled / glossy colors, black, flat grayscale, disk drive, LED colors, glossy balls, bars, color / gray stack, buddy faces, apples, glass squares, small boxes, HAL9000 or HAL9001, hearts, stars, candy, triangles, spaguetti and much more.

Other options include the possibility to ignore devices that don’t contain media or unknown devices that are connected for the first time.
