Allows you to quickly get a list of all software components that might plague an otherwise healthy system. #Diagnose system #System audit #System consultant #Diagnostics #Audit #System
The first thing one usually ask a person who’s complaining about their computer’s performance is “have you installed anything new recently?”
The answer received is almost always a resounding “no", although their dock and menu bar are both overrun with colorful, continuously animating icons you know didn’t come in the box.
Consultant’s Canary is an open source and handy Python based script which will ferret out most of the aftermarket crapware that usually plagues a user’s otherwise healthy system.
Consultant’s Canary does not disable or delete anything since the heterogeneous pedigree of OS X’s hardware drivers make false positives rather common.
Instead, Consultant’s Canary displays a list of every potentially suspicious looking piece of code that’s hooking itself into a user’s machine. This will usually save you hours of boring re-installation work, and make you look smarter than you really are in the process. NOTE: Consultant’s Canary comes bundled up in a nice double-click-able app wrapper so you do not even have to know what a Python script is to run it. If you are working on a multi-user system, you can just have to run the dispatcher.py file in the bundle’s resources as root.
Consultant’s Canary 2.9.5
