Arq is an easy to use tool which will allow you to back your stuff up automagically to your Amazon S3 account.

Arq will also protect your privacy, will allow you to maintain total control over your data and will also help you to restore your backed up data with ease, anywhere you want to.

Arq is based on this set of principles:
· it’s your data
· backup must be trustworthy
· security must be straightforward and strong
· you shouldn’t have to try to outsmart a so-called “unlimited-backup” scheme
· your backup software provider shouldn’t talk down to you

Here are some key features of "Arq":

Totally secure:
· Arq encrypts your files with AES-256, the same technology the US government uses. You choose a password (”encryption key”) for encrypting, and that password is known only to you -- it’s never sent to us or to Amazon. So no one but you can access your online backup data.

Verifiable online backup:
· Unlike Mozy and Carbonite, with Arq your backup data are controlled by you.You can see what’s in your storage account and you know where your files are.

Drag-and-drop restore:
· The fastest, easiest way to restore! Just drag and drop the files from the backup to your desktop or any folder to restore immediately from your Amazon account. No zip files or waiting for emails.

Built especially for the Mac:
· Arq is the only online backup product built specifically for the Mac, and only the Mac. So it has the look and feel you expect from a Mac application.
· Arq backs up and restores all the special “metadata” of Mac files, including resource forks, ACLs, creator codes and finder flags.

Smart network usage:
· Arq automatically slows down (”throttles”) its uploading whenever you’re using the internet for web browsing. When you’re done, Arq goes back to full speed automatically.

No limits:
· Unlike Mozy and Carbonite, Arq doesn’t place any limits on what you back up. It doesn’t limit file sizes; it doesn't delete backups of your external hard drive if you don’t plug it in periodically; it doesn’t automatically delete backups more than 4 weeks old (it deletes old backups according to the storage budget you choose); it doesn’t prevent you backing up your NAS drive or multiple computers.

Fixed Bugs:
· Fixed an issue where changes to extended attributes weren't being backed up if the file data didn't change as well.
· Fixed a crash that happens after transient (usually network) errors occur during restoring.
· Fixed an issue where unencrypted content-type info was being written to S3.

· Reduced the number of filesystem calls to improve backup performance and reduce load.
