macOS application which offers you the possibility to improve your computer's performance by pausing or slowing down apps while in the background. #Pause app #App pauser #Stop app #Pause #Stop #Pauser
Certain Mac applications continue running animations and other processes even when placed in the background. App Tamer offers you the possibility to pause, or slow down these utilities in order to gain more processing power for the current task.
The App Tamer installation procedure is reduced to a simple drag and drop to the Applications folder. Nonetheless, the first time you launch the utility you must agree to install the App Tamer Helper agent, which is required for the app to work properly (it will be placed in the /Library/PriviledgedHelperTools/ folder).
Within the App Tamer main panel, you can view a list of all applications and processed that are taking up CPU power, and decide which limitations you want to apply in each case.
The settings panel attached to each entry enables you to stop the app completely when hidden or running in the background, or to slow it down if it goes over a specific CPU power percent.
For your convenience, App Tamer comes with a color code that lets you know the current settings for each utility. Moreover, the app allows you to see how much CPU power is used by all utilities, and how many resources are saved by App Tamer.
Further customization options are included in the App Tamer Preferences window: you get to adjust the CPU statistics refresh period, or the delay for stopped applications. At the same time, App Tamer can periodically wake up processes that have been stopped.
To sum it all up, App Tamer enables you to pause or slow down utilities that are taking up CPU resources unnecessarily. This way you get to direct resources to more important tasks, to reduce the battery usage, the computer heat level, the fan noise, and so on.

What's new in App Tamer 2.8.3:
- Corrected issues with process control not working correctly during and after system sleep.
- You can now create a sample report (like in Apple's Activity Monitor) using the contextual menu in App Tamer's process list.
- vdhcoapp, the helper app for the Video DownloadHelper browser extension, is treated as a distinct application so CPU limits can be set for it separately from the web browser that hosts it.
- Fixed the appearance of buttons in the process lists on older versions of macOS.
