Witness turns your Mac into a home alarm system, using its iSight camera as a motion sensor. If motion is detected, Witness sends mugshots and video to your iPhone or iPad.
Every 14 seconds, a burglary takes place in the United States. About 2.2 million houses, offices and dorm rooms are broken into every year, resulting in annual losses of $3.1 billion.
Isn't it ironic that most of the burglarized houses contain computers powerful enough to monitor them and alert the owner of the presence of an intruder?
Witness puts your Macs to use while you are away: it utilizes your Mac's built-in iSight camera as a motion sensor. As soon as motion is detected, Witness immediately sends an alert to your iOS device, including intruder mugshots and video.
Arming your alarm while at the beach? Suppose you are halfway to the airport and realize you might have forgotten to arm the alarm. With Witness, you won't miss your plane. Simply flip the switch on your iPhone and you are ready for takeoff.
The free Witness iOS app is compatible with iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The app allows you to arm and disarm the alarm and to view images and video as soon as motion is detected. Witness app also allows you to easily browse through the alarm system's history.
Whether you are at work, in class or at the other side of the world, the iOS app or the witnessapp.com website let you stay on top of what happens in your home, office or dorm room.
Some apps offer a live video stream. While that sounds cool at first, it has many disadvantages: it eats a lot of bandwidth, especially on mobile devices, and you end up watching videos that don't show anything interesting.
Witness is smarter: when motion is detected, you are notified right away through an alert on your iOS device, or in your web browser. If nothing happens at your house and no motion is detected, Witness remains silent – no need to interrupt you when everything is just fine.
NOTE: To use the Witness service an account is required.
