LameSecure 0.8 Beta

Allows you to masquerade one file as another
Encrypting files usually takes a decent amount of time if the job is done right. LameSecure is designed to deal with those files for which you do not want to take the time to properly secure, but you still want to hide somehow.

LameSecure only works on environments that support PowerPC applications (Snow Leopard is included) and is still a Beta release. It seems that it will remain this way because the developer has not updated the application for a long time.

If you are using LameSecure to hide files and you want to upgrade your Mac to a more recent operating system (such as Lion or Montain Lion), make sure you uninstall the app first. Since LameSecure does not work on those operating systems you might have problems retrieving your data.

LameSecure does not encrypt your files in any way. The application has two main functionalities: it can set up password protection and it can hide a file or folder in another file or folder.

To use LameSecure you must specify the primary file, the embedded file and the activation key. LameSecure offers you the possibility to use four modifier keys: Option, Command, Control or Shift. Additionally, you can choose to password protect the primary file, the embedded file or both. When all the settings are done just press the “Save” button.

LameSecure will hide the embedded file, which can be accessed only if you try to open the primary file and press the activation key at the same time. To get things back to normal, open the primary file in the LameSecure application and press the “Revert” button.

LameSecure does a great job if you need to keep your files private without taking the time and resources to encrypt them. The setup process is fairly intuitive and you are able to get things going with just a few clicks.
