Avast Passwords is an alternative password manager that puts all your accounts credentials behind a single master password, encrypts the information, and then syncs everything to all your devices by using the cloud.
Right off the bat, Avast Passwords prompts you to create a master passkey and warns you about the impossibility to recover the data if you lose the key. Keep in mind that you can also change it periodically via the app's Preferences window.
Avast Passwords employs the password to encrypt the data and lock its interface, but you will have to remember to manually lock the utility. Otherwise, anyone using your Mac will have access to the database.
To avoid any issues, within the Preferences you can choose to have the interface automatically locked if certain conditions are met.
At the same time, Avast Passwords tries to streamline the process of adding information to the database by allowing you to import items from Chrome or 1Password.
Optionally, you can also install the companion Safari, Chrome, and Firefox extensions to take advantage of the auto-fill capabilities. The same area allows you to set the default web browser for opening web links.
Within the Avast Passwords main window, you can either input password entries or create text notes. For each password entry, Avast Passwords allows you to associate a color tag, a service name, a URL, a username, and a password.
The Avast Passwords notes entries can only handle text content, and you get to attach a color label together with one of the built-in icon designs to make them more easily recognizable.
If you log into your Avast account, the utility will automatically start syncing all the information to the cloud so that you can have access to all your credentials and notes on all your devices.
Bottom line, Avast Passwords proposes an alternative solution for keeping your credentials easily accessible while not compromising on security.
You get to encrypt the information using a master key, and Avast Passwords syncs everything to your devices by going through the Avast Cloud.
