Apple Remote Desktop is the Apple vetted software solution for remotely managing Mac computers that are connected to your network. The application is a commercial product and can be used to install software updates, to offer real time support, to gather data about the workstations, or to automate maintenance tasks.
The Apple Remote Desktop Admin update is intended to extend the capabilities of your Apple Remote Desktop application and to fix possible issues. To be able to install this update, Apple Remote Desktop Admin must be deployed on your Mac beforehand.
Apple Remote Desktop Admin comes with its own installer package so all you have to do is follow the onscreen indications. Of course, to be able to take advantage of everything the app has to offer, you must have some type of network connection (Ethernet is recommended, but Wi-Fi or IP over FireWire also works).
The Apple Remote Desktop system requires a server where you can view all connected Mac clients (the Apple Remote Desktop Client must be running on all computers that you want to control). The Apple Remote Desktop Admin package must be installed on the workstation used for managing the client computers.
Once you have established a connection between the administration computer and the network clients, Apple Remote Desktop allows you to quickly deploy software installations to client workstations.
Simply install the apps on the admin workstation and Apple Remote Desktop Admin will copy the package to the Task Server, and then transfer and install it on all connected Mac systems (if the target computer is offline, the task will be queued).
Apple Remote Desktop Admin can be used to collect data from all connected computers: for example, you can perform Spotlight searches on different computers without ever leaving your desktop. Moreover, you can also use Apple Remote Desktop Admin to offer support to more inexperienced users.
Apple Remote Desktop Admin is a great tool to have around if you need to deploy software, perform maintenance tasks, offer assistance, or find data on various Mac workstations that are connected to a network.
