remux Review by
4.0/5

Based on the FFmpeg tool, remux is a straightforward macOS application that enables you to convert media files into popular file formats, while packing batch processing capabilities. You can use the remux app to quickly create MKV, MP4, M4V, AVI, TS, or VOB media files.

Finding your way around the remux application is quite easy because the utility is sporting a fairly intuitive workflow: within the app’s main window you must decide if you want to process a single file, or you need to convert more than one item.

Once the items that will be processed are imported, in the remux main window you can view their type, the used codec, and their language.

Simply select the output file format from the appropriate drop down menu, and press the “Go” or “Start” button to launch the process. You also have the possibility to re-encode the data by using one of the supported codecs.

Within the remux “Batch processing” tab you have the option to use a different output file format for each file, even if the items will be converted at the same time.

The same area enables you to change the output folder, but note that remux does not provide support for sending the converted files to different directories.

remux proposes a minimalist and highly intuitive user interface in which you can take advantage of the FFmpeg tool in order to convert media files to other popular file formats and make them available on multiple devices.

The remux app is quite easy to use, can handle more than one file at the same time, and is able to get the job done without requiring too much user interaction.

What's new in remux 1.4:

  • Updated internal FFmpeg libs to newer API to support HEVC.
  • Dropped PPC, i386 and older OS X versions support due to Xcode SDK restrictions and newer FFmpeg compilation issues.
  • Updated FFmpeg to 3.4.2
  • Added new aac_at presets which use the Apple AAC encoder.
