Creating ringtones for your iPhone by using various audio processing suites can prove to be challenging, because you need to extract only a small piece of the track and apply specific effects in order to get suitable results.

Ringer is a small Mac application that can help you process any non-protected audio track in order to create ringtones, and to streamline their transfer to your iPhone device.

Note that Ringer will generate M4R files, which are mainly compatible with iOS devices, but might also work on other gadgets that support the M4A format.

Initially, Ringer allows you to browse your iTunes media library and you can choose to process any of the non protected tracks.

However, the application also offers you the possibility to import audio files with a simple drag and drop, and it comes with support for most popular audio file formats. Ringer includes a collection of already made ringtones organized into 3 categories: assorted, classic arcade, and RingtoneFeeder. You can edit them further or transfer them to your iPhone on the spot.

Once an audio track is selected, Ringer will display the audio waveform in its main window. You can use a selection tool to highlight the part that you want to extract and decide if you want to make ringtones or alert tones.

Ringer also provides you with the opportunity to quickly add fade in or fade out effects to your ringtones, going from half a second to up to 5 seconds. At the same time, you can specify the time gap between rings.

On the whole, Ringer allows you to use virtually any audio track to make your own iPhone ringtones: simply import the track, extract the part that interests you, and the application will automatically copy the resulting ringtone in the iTunes Tones folder, ready to be imported to your device.
