Phiewer delivers an alternative to the default macOS applications for viewing image files or playing audio tracks or videos. The viewer can handle some of the most popular file formats and can automatically load all the supported files for a user selected folder.

Phiewer comes with a minimalist design and tries to reserve its interface for viewing the image or video content. However, the app also features a media gallery navigation panel, and you get to toggle its visibility by pressing the “Control” key.

Phiewer automatically generates a background that matches the photo or video ambiance. Note that you can also toggle the effect by pressing down the “Option” key.

On the other hand, the gallery navigation and the playback control bar will hide automatically. This way, the entire Phiewer window is reserved for displaying the photos or the video content. The app can also play audio tracks, but it this case its window will remain dark.

Within the Phiewer application you get to open PNG, TIFF, BMP, JPG, or JPEG image files or MP4, M4V, MOV, M4A, or M4U videos. The utility can also play audio tracks.

In fact, if you direct Phiewer to a certain folder, the app will load to its media library all supported files and even generate small thumbnails. The viewer can also display the metadata information associated with a file, such as the type, size, dimension, orientation, duration, creation or modification date.

The media player comes with control bars both for navigating the files and managing the playback or adjusting the volume. Phiewer can rotate the image and, when working with pictures, it can also zoom in or out the image.
