Capto is a screen capturing utility that can grab screenshots or record videos and includes both file organization and editing capabilities. Moreover, Capto can also integrate with your FTP server, or various social media accounts in order to streamline the sharing process.
The Capto capabilities are polarized around two areas or interest: capturing the content, and editing the data before sharing it with others. As far as the firsts part is concerned, Capto comes with elementary functions.
You can choose to capture a screenshot of the entire screen, or a particular area, or of a user selected window or menu. Similarly, you get to decide if you want to record the activity on the entire screen, or only what’s happening in a highlighted area.
To help the user deal with these tasks, Capto comes with multiple customization options, going from using fixed size presets for the capturing area, to adjusting the video's FPS or deciding if you want to capture the audio or not.
The Capto user interface is represented by two different components: the status bar menulet that provides quick access to the capturing functions, and the actual app window where you can organize and edit the captured content.
Worth mentioning is that, by allowing Capto to control your computer via the Accessibility panel, you can use the default system hotkeys for grabbing screenshots to send the images to Capto. Nonetheless, you can also use the default Capto keyboard combinations, or even set up custom ones.
All the grabbed content will be automatically sent to the Capto main window where you get to sort the entries by type (image or video), or by collections. The same area enables you to change the file’s name, to add tags and notes, or to see the associated metadata info.
On the other hand, you get to quickly switch to the editing mode where you can cut, crop, or trim the original content, draw objects on top of the image, make text annotations, and so on. The final result can be exported as an image (PNG, JPEG, TIFF, PDF, GIF, BMP) or as a video file (MOV, MP4, or M4V).
To sum up, Capto brings to the table an extensive collection of screen capturing, file management, and image and video editing tools designed to help you present events the way that they are happening on your desktop.
The Capto utility can help you produce professional looking image and video tutorials, and also integrates with content sharing services, which makes the entire process notably straightforward.
