Comes with a collection of templates designed to help you make on the fly adjustments to Final Cut Pro transitions, titles and effects

editor's review

Intended as a companion application for Final Cut Pro, Apple Motion enables you to either create effects, transition and titles for your video projects, or your own 2D or 3D animations.

Apple Motion comes with an intuitive interface featuring a single-window layout and a wide collection of controls that will help you manipulate effects and offers you the possibility to edit keyframes.

You can use Apple Motion to set up animated templates for different transition, title, generators or effects and then send them to Final Cut Pro and apply them on your own footage. You can even group parameters and use a single slider to modify multiple variables at the same time.

Apple Motion is great if you need to add text content to your video footage: you are able to display the actual text, but also personalize its appearance to match your needs. The app enables you to adjust the text position, layout, style, format, rotation, orientation, create 3D effects and much more.

Moreover, due to the powerful Apple Motion real-time design engine, you can interact with your footage and make adjustments during playback: you are able to view the result instantly.

Apple Motion includes over 1900 royalty free, high quality 2D and 3D compositions that you can use in your own projects. In addition, the app comes packed with “behaviors” such as Repel, Throw or Vortex that will help you simulate a real life effect without having to write a line of code.

Last but not least, you can use another Apple application, Compressor, to generate custom output settings that can then be imported in Apple Motion and reused on multiple projects or shared with your friends. This way you can easily extend the app’s encoding capabilities.

Since it cannot open multiple projects at the same time, Apple Motion is probably better suited for casual users than high end production. However, the app is great if you are looking for a way to add animations to your videos.
