    VelaTerra description

An easy to use, interactive almanac and world clock

VelaTerra is an interactive almanac and world clock that displays the current level of natural light (bright daylight, three levels of twilight, and night), moon phase information, local times and country flags for major cities throughout the world.

VelaTerra is an interactive almanac and world clock intended for use as an everyday utility and general reference tool. VelaTerra can rapidly find the local time for any place in the world. Using place sets, frequently referenced places can be organized in easy to access groups.

In the application Dock on your desktop, the VelaTerra icon shows the earth centered on the Current Location. Two small badges superimposed on the icon accurately show the current moon phase and type of light (day, night or twilight). The Current Location can be your home location or any other place you choose.

VelaTerra is not just another world clock. Most world clocks simply show local times for different cities around the world. VelaTerra goes a step further by showing the current light (day, twilight, or night) in the center of each clock.

Most world clocks show a single set of five, eight, or twelve clocks. The Clocks window in VelaTerra can show an unlimited number of clocks from multiple place sets.

VelaTerra uses the tz database (often called tz or zoneinfo) which represents the history of local time for locations around the globe. It is arguably the most accurate time zone database available.

The tz database is used by several UNIX-based operating systems and has been in use since 1986. It is updated periodically to reflect changes made by political bodies to UTC offsets and daylight-saving rules.

VelaTerra can be used to quickly determine a reasonable time for a phone call or meeting for multiple time zones.

Here are some key features of "VelaTerra":

    · Display and compare the current light (day, twilight, or night) for different cities
    · Track changes in the moon phase by city and time zone
