Gravit For Mac

The Barnes-Hut n-body Algorithm can be used to generate gravity simulations, but it is not so easy to predict how exactly will a body react to different environmental changes.

Gravit is an open source simulator application that enables you to create different universes and experiment by adjusting certain parameters. The application is rendering particle to particle calculations.

To use Gravit, you need an architecture that includes Apple’s X11 or, its official replacement, XQuartz (make sure you always have the latest version installed).

Gravit might not work properly on more recent operating systems, such as Mac OS X Mavericks, but we have not encountered issues on a Mac running Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

On launch, Gravit will cover the entire screen and, in the center of the window, you will be able to view the simulation.

In the top left corner you can read the simulation name, the particles number, the average video FPS and frame time, the last record frame time, the actual frames number, the number of recorded frames, the particle vertices, the allocated memory and more.

On the bottom left corner you will view notifications about the adjusted parameters. At the same time, you should monitor the area to receive additional instructions.

Gravit is controlled via different keys: you must press them to adjust parameters, the view mode and more. However, you can also use the mouse to rotate or zoom in or out the Gravit simulation.

For example, F8 will launch a new simulation, F6 will pause the simulation, F5 will play the recording from the beginning, the “/“ key will change the color mode, the “+” and “-“ keys will adjust the particles size and more. You can view the entire list by pressing the help button.

To conclude, Gravit is able to simulate the behavior of a group of particles under certain gravity conditions and generates beautiful representations.
