Astronomy and astrophotography are becoming ever more popular among amateur enthusiasts, as the increasing accessibility of powerful telescopes has sparked considerable interest in these fields.
If you are thinking of buying one of these devices yourself or need a way to manage a telescope you already own, AstroTelescope is an app that can help you out. It can be used separately, but works best in conjunction with AstroImager and AstroGuider.
There is nothing flashy about AstroTelescope’s interface, and it is evident that the app focuses on functionality, without cluttering your workspace unnecessarily.
You can zoom in and out, rotate the star map and use the included search function to find any object you may be interested in. The application displays details about the currently selected item, as well as the telescope’s position.
After installing AstroTelescope, you need to configure various settings related to your device, the observatory’s location, the star map, drivers and INDI (Instrument Neutral Distributed Interface).
The application also includes a manual control panel that can be used to start or stop tracking and slew the telescope in any direction.
Make no mistake, AstroTelescope is a stand-alone application that does not require any additional software to function properly. However, the integrated INDI server allows you to share data, such as equatorial coordinates of the current position, telescope focal length and aperture or various operations.
If AstroImager is run on a local network, the metadata used in FITS headers is set by AstroTelescope.
Overall, this is a helpful application for those interested in astronomy and astrophotography. It allows you to view and navigate through the star map or control a connected telescope and can be easily integrated with other applications.
