The Facebook web based instant messaging service has become quite popular lately, yet it can both clutter your web browser and disrupt your workflow since you might stumble upon its tab even when you need to focus.

webMessenger is a small Mac OS X utility that enables you to access the Facebook Messenger service in a separate window, right on your desktop. The app simply connects to the Messenger web app, so it features all the function you got accustomed to.

Within the webMessenger main window you can see a list with all your conversations, and post or receive new messages, Naturally, you may also start new chats, with a specific user, or with a group of people.

When creating group conversations, you need to input more than one contact, separated by a comma. Even if initially only the first contact will be retained, you will have the option to add more. Press on the Info button to see the complete list of participants and invite more people.

webMessenger allows you to upload images to your conversation with a simple drag and drop, but you must make sure to drop the file on top of the image upload icon. Otherwise, webMessenger will open the image in its main window: to go back to the chat view simply press the Command + Backspace keys.

At the same time, webMessenger will send any URL to your default web browser, and can display notifications in the Dock for the unread messages. The app also provides access to the basic emoticon collection, and allows you to browse the Sticker Store and download new collections.

To conclude, webMessenger offers you the possibility to communicate with your Facebook friends without cluttering your web browser, although you might encounter some glitches while using the app.
