Watching YouTube videos in your browser has several downsides: you need to navigate back and forth through tabs or use multiple windows, and the resources consumption is quite high since most browsers employ the Adobe Flash Player plug-in.

iTubePlayer is designed to deal with these issues in an elegant manner. The application works as a standalone utility featuring an uncluttered layout, and does not use the Adobe Flash Player to render the videos, which translates into fewer required resources.

Within the iTubePlayer main window, you can directly insert a YouTube URL and start watching the videos, or you can use the search tool to find specific content.

By default, iTubePlayer will provide a list with popular videos, but you can easily add your own search terms. The application allows you to view all the content published on a particular channel, but you cannot browse playlists.

What’s more, iTubePlayer does not come with a playback queue, so you have to manually handle the videos at all times. However, the application does offer you the possibility to put the current entry on repeat.

The idea behind using a desktop client for browsing the YouTube website is the fact that, since you are not operating on a full featured browser, the resources demands drop in consequence.

In the case of the iTubePlayer app, the effect is even greater because it is not using the Adobe Flash Player either.

On a 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac with 6GB RAM, iTubePlayer used about 40% CPU power while loading the video and 30MB RAM. The CPU usage dropped to around 10% while playing a video, and almost to none at all while in stand by.
