iCookie is a practical and useful Mac OS X utility specially designed to protect your privacy by handling your Safari cookies and emptying Safari caches.

A cookie, also known as a browser cookie, web cookie or HTTP cookie, is a small amount of data sent from a website and saved in your web browser while you are browsing the website. Every time you revisit the website your browser automatically sends the cookie back to the server in order to notify the website about the your previous activity.

Even if cookies are not capable to carry viruses or install malware on your Mac, tracking cookies and third-party tracking cookies can generate long-term records of your browsing activity, fact that can violate your privacy.

Thanks to iCookie, you can now manage your Safari cookies and protect your privacy by automatically clearing all the cookies from all websites that are not present in your favorites list. All the cleaning process takes place in the background in order no to distract you from your work.

From iCookie’s status bar menu you can manually clear all Safari cookies, empty Safari caches and access the favorites window. What is more, you can mark the currently visited webpage as favorite, clear all non-favorites cookies and open the Preferences window.

You can view and manage all your cookies from iCookie’s main window. The built-in search form helps you find the desired webpage with just a few keystrokes and filter the displayed websites as you type.

The Preferences window helps you enable or disable the notification system and choose the synchronization method. Currently, you can backup and keep your favorites list synchronized across multiple Macs via Dropbox. iCloud will also be supported in the following updates.

In conclusion, iCookie is a useful and intuitive application that promises to help us protect our privacy by automatically removing unneeded Safari cookies.
