Using your battery in a sensible manner is a must when you are on the go, but the regime is not that strict if working from home, where you certainly have access to an energy source.
@home is a minimalist OS X app that can automatically switch your energy saving settings depending on your current network connection. The best part is that after the initial configuration, @home does not require any user interaction.
Upon launch, @home places a small menulet in your status bar that grants quick access to the app’s Preferences panel. Here you can set the SSID of your home Wi-Fi network, and learn more about the symbolistic used by the app's icon.
The @home icon design will change to let you know if your home settings are on, or if your Mac has the energy saving configuration active. The @home app’s approach to the matter is quite intuitive, and you will find it rather easy to configure.
By default, your computer applies the energy saving settings that are defined in your System Preferences. This means that after a certain period of time the screen saver will come on, and your Mac might even go to sleep.
Naturally, you do have the option to disable both functions, but if you are running on battery mode, having these settings active is advisable.
Nonetheless, @home can quickly prevent your Mac from locking the screen or going to sleep as long as you are at home.
To determine your current location, @home will check your Wi-Fi connection: if you are using the home network, there is no need for energy saving precautions.
@home eliminates the need to go back to the System Preferences whenever you want to make sure your energy saving configuration will not interfere with your activity.
The @home app can identify a location based on the name of the Wi-Fi network and deals with everything without requiring the user attention.
