Save all your favorite YouTube music videos and play them easily from your Mac's menu bar, with this nifty and straightforward application. #Collect YouTube videos #Play YouTube video #Save link #Collect #YouTube #Link
When we consider how many songs can be listened to freely on YouTube, it is no wonder many people turn to the popular video hosting service whenever they want to listen to music on their Macs. Managing multiple tabs in your web browser can be a pain, however, and this is where Yays can come to your aid.
It is a simple OS X app that enables you to store the URLs of all of your favorite YouTube videos and then play them at any time without cluttering your browser window.
There are three methods of adding new items to your list. First of all, you can copy the YouTube link and use the Cmd+G shortcut to instantly import it in Yays. You can also drag the link to your collection, though it is automatically added to the end of the list, regardless of where you drop it.
It should also be possible to press the ‘ADD’ button and paste the YouTube link manually, but we were unable to perform this action, despite attempting it on two systems running OS X 10.11 and 10.10.3.
Once a clip has been saved in Yays, it can be played by clicking its entry in the list. The video is displayed in a separate panel, and you have access to the classic YouTube controls. You can also apply a filter to find specific videos more easily.
Yays is very unobtrusive, as once playback has been started, you can minimize it to your menu bar without cluttering your browser with numerous tabs. However, it would help if the notifications it displays every time a new video is played could be disabled.
Unfortunately, Yays lacks many useful functions. For example, you cannot sort the videos in any way or organize them into groups. If your collection grows past a certain level, it may be very difficult to find the ones you need at any given time.
However, the most glaring omission is the fact that the app does not allow you to move items within the collection. As a result, you have no way of creating a personalized playlist, unless you add the videos in the correct order.
Overall, Yays would be a very useful application if it included some additional functions. As it stands, it shows promise, but in its current state it is not very easy to work with and may not be that helpful.
