The WhatsApp service comes with a web version that offers you the option to connect to your account via a QR code by using your mobile device’s camera. This means that you communicate with your friends from your desktop computer, but you need to go through a web browser.

WhatsDesktop is an unofficial WhatsApp Web desktop client that offers you the possibility to access the service without cluttering your web browser.

The initial setup process for the WhatsDesktop app is quite straightforward: launch the WhatsApp utility on your mobile phone, go to the WhatsApp Web menu, and add the new desktop device by using the camera to scan the QR code displayed within the WhatsDesktop main window.

Note that the WhatsApp Web service requires the latest WhatsApp version installed on the mobile side. At the moment, you can use WhatsApp Web with any iPhone, Android, Windows Phone, Blackberry and Blackberry 10, Nokia S40 and S60 phone.

The  WhatsDesktop design resembles the service’s web console, so finding your way around is fairly intuitive. You get to see your current contacts list and quickly open a new chat window, or create group rooms.

WhatsDesktop enables you to share image and video files, provides support for desktop and sound alerts, and offers you the possibility to archive your chats. What’s more, you get to change your profile image, and even update your status message.

WhatsDesktop is built to function with the web function provided by the WhatsApp service, yet it is not an official desktop client for the utility.

Nonetheless, WhatsDesktop connects to your WhatsApp account and helps you communicate with your friends without cluttering your default web browser, or making you waste your resources by using a separate browser just for this service.
