TripMode For Mac

TripMode is an unobtrusive macOS status bar menu application designed to automatically block the internet access to certain applications if you are connected to a mobile hotspot. This way, you can make sure that your mobile data bill will not be inflated unnecessarily.

Noteworthy is that TripMode is not limited to dealing with mobile networks: you get to activate it manually regardless of the type of your internet connection. The tool proves to be very useful if you have a limited monthly quota and you want to make sure you will not go over.

Once activated, TripMode will block the internet access for applications that have not been vetted by the user. In the TripMode main menu you will see a list with all apps that want internet access, and you get to check the box associated to the ones that you actually want to use.

Considering the high cost for mobile data subscriptions, it is recommended to download large archives or application updates when you are connected to network in which the traffic is less expensive. The same rule applies for online backups or for Cloud synchronizations.

TripMode will automatically block both the download and the upload for the apps that have not been whitelisted. On the other hand, if you need to grant temporary network access to a certain app, you can do so through a simple mouse click.

If you need to deal with a limited monthly quota for your internet traffic, the TripMode application proves to be a very efficient companion app. The utility activates on its own when you are connecting to a mobile hotspot, but it can also be used with any type of network.
