Trendy is an unobtrusive status bar menu application designed to help you stay up to date with the latest popular projects on GitHub. The app can display the projects that have just started trending, or the currently trending repositories overall.

At first launch, Trendy opens the Language Picker window where you must choose the programming languages that you want to monitor. For your convenience, try to make all the necessary adjustments on the spot.

To change your selection at a later time, you must open the config.json and manually manage the programming language list, which is more time consuming.

You might want to log in to your GitHub account in order to bypass API limitations that are put in place if the languages list is quite extensive.

Within the Trendy status bar menu, you get to see the latest popular GitHub projects organized by language, by newly trending, and by currently trending.

If you click on a certain entry, you will see the pages in the built-in browser, but you can also switch to an external web browser. Once you viewed a certain project, you can use the checked mark to remove it from the list.

By default, Trendy is working in menulet mode, but if you want to see the data in a larger, standalone window, open the config.json file and change the “mode” parameter from “menubar” to “isolated”.

Trendy will change the menulet icon color in order to signify that there are new repositories trending on GitHub.
