Ever since Facebook has launched its mobile apps for both its standalone Facebook app and the chat-orientated Messenger, macOS users have been left feeling left out a bit, and for good reason.

Despite the number of years that have passed, we still haven’t seen an official standalone app for both Facebook and for Messenger, which has always been on every Facebook user’s mind.

But, finally, we have some good news: from now on, you can chat with your Facebook friends directly from your Mac’s desktop and without having to use the browser in order to do so with the help of a streamlined OS X application named Messenger for Mac.

Basically, Messenger for Mac is a wrapper of Facebook’s official Messenger web-app. This means that you should expect to be greeted by the same streamlined interface found in the official web-app that strongly resembles the one found in iOS, Android, or Windows mobile versions of Messenger.

It also means that you should expect to have access to the full history of all your conversations and, of course, that all your messages will be visible on all Facebook connected devices.

Evidently, the good news is the fact that this application “brings” with it all the major functions of the official Messenger web-app, but unfortunately, in its current development stage, Messenger for Mac doesn’t allow you to send pictures. This said, the application is still usable and quite useful, and we are certain that with further versions this feature will be implemented.

Taking all things into consideration, Messenger for Mac enables you to chat with your Friends on Facebook directly from your Mac’s desktop in a similar fashion as you would while using the Messenger app from your mobile device, without needing to have a browser tab specially designated towards this purpose.
