Developed using NW.js, Messenger is a cross-platform application that offers you the possibility to use the Facebook instant messaging service outside a web browser.

Messenger makes sure that you don’t have to clutter your default browser anymore, while not wasting resources on an additional browser either.

The Messenger desktop app comes with a rather straightforward design: the main window is separated in two areas, one for listing the active chats, and the other for viewing their content and posting new messages.

The application integrates a simple search tool and allows you to quickly start new conversations with the press of a button. If you add more than one contact, Messenger will create a group conversation. Later on, you can add new people or even leave the group altogether.

The best part is that Messenger integrates additional interface themes besides the default one: mosaic and dark. You can switch between them via the app’s main menu and will prove quite useful if you don’t enjoy luminous or colorful designs.

Messenger provides support for uploading both image and video content, either by drag and drop or by using the Finder menu. The app comes with a couple of built-in emoticon sets and you can access the Sticker Store and install new ones.

Note that you can share videos only through the Finder menu and that you will not be able to preview them inline. However, the other users will be able to download the video files to their own computers.

If you are using Facebook’s messaging service but you don’t like having to go through a web browser, Messenger proves to be a great addition to your software collection. Moreover, the included darker themes can help you integrate it better with your desktop.
