Procrastination can be a serious problem, especially if you are prone to be easily distracted. SelfControl is a small but very powerful app that can block the access to distracting websites while you work.

The trick is that once you setup a timer and you started the blockage, you will not be able to revert the process. The ban will remain in place after a restart, and even if you delete the app.

Minimalist software solution that can help you keep distractions away

The SelfControl user interface is extremely simple and easy to use: the main window is dominated by a slider bar that allows you to adjust the timeout period, going from 15 minutes to 1 day.

At the same time, in the bottom right corner of the window you will see the “Edit Blacklist” button that provides access to the Domain Blacklist panel. After you insert the URLs you ant blocked, simply press the Start button and SelfControl takes care of the rest.

Effortlessly create lists of websites that you want to block

For your convenience, SelfControl comes with a list of common distracting, news, and publications websites: you can easily import them to your own list with a simple mouse click. At the same time, SelfControl can block incoming and outgoing main servers.

SelfControl also offers you the possibility to create a whitelist block: that means that all the websites besides the ones included in the whitelist will be blocked. Note that this function blocks all the services that require network access, except the ones connecting to the whitelist domains.

Powerful software solution that can help you be productive

SelfControl is a great tool to have around if you ant to make sure that you will not be distracted while working on a certain project: the app cuts the access to user defined distracting websites, or emails. Most importantly, the app does not allow you to revert the command until the timer runs out, not even if you uninstall the utility.
