koko For Mac

Internet Relay Chat (IRC) servers are a good place to meet for people that share the same interests, but are not connected in real life. Koko is another IRC chat client that comes with support for basic functions and features a no-nonsense design.

Within the Koko main window, you must provide the host address for the IRC server, the port that should be used for the connection, and the encoding protocol. At the same time, you have to include a nick, a username, and a real name.

Note that you can open multiple windows by using the Command + N hotkey, and connect to more than one IRC servers at the same time. You get to toggle the DevTools visibility.

Koko does not come with any menus or buttons, but packs elementary functions and can handle most of the default shortcuts and commands, such as /join, /part, /whois, /nick, /kick, /ban, /topic, /msg, and so on.

To view the list of all supported commands, make sure to read the developer’s online user guide. They also provide a detailed configuration guide.

Worth mentioning is that Koko allows you to preview both image and video URLs inline. This means that you can see the content instantly, without having to use third party apps to open the links.

The Koko IRC client has been developed using CSS, HTML5, and JavaScript and comes with some popular VIM-like shortcuts. The app packs most functions one would expect from an IRC client, and its interface is not cluttered by unnecessary details.

However, to be able to use it, you must memorize all the common server commands: Koko does not provide any type of helper tools.
