PhotoStack (formerly Instastack) For Mac

PhotoStack (formerly known Instastack) aims to provide the same mobile Instagram experience on your Mac’s desktop, by allowing you to navigate your account’s feed in a minimalist yet stylish user interface.

The app can connect to a single Instagram account, and even if the app’s window is resizable, the layout is preserved. However, the images size will be automatically adjusted, so you might want to use a bigger window to avoid opening the photos in a separate panel if you want to see the larger version.

Right off the bat, you must connect to your Instagram account and allow Instastack to process various types of data. Note that you can easily revoke the access at any time through your account’s settings panel.

Within the PhotoStack main window, you can see your main feed, but also favorite or popular entries. Moreover, PhotoStack comes with a search tool where you can find posts that have a certain tag, or specific Instagram users (you can easily follow or unfollow someone).

PhotoStack offers you the possibility to quickly favorite entries, and you can even post comments: note that even if you do not see the posted comment, the message will be visible on the website.

Even through the PhotoStack user interface cannot be personalized in any way, the design follows the Apple human interface guidelines so it will integrate perfectly with your desktop.

In fact, PhotoStack comes with very few customization options: you only get to toggle the notifications visibility and to adjust the auto-refresh frequency, going from 1 minute, to 60 minutes, or to never. Since Instastack does not seem to include manual refresh tools, using the latter option is not advisable.
