Hide My IP offers you the possibility to protect your online identity without having to deal with complicated procedures. The utility resides in your status bar and can automatically change the IP address at user specified intervals.
Once you activate the Hide My IP service, the utility will start searching for available servers and switch your IP address without any other user interaction. To check if the service is working properly, just launch the app’s interface: there you can see the current status and both IP addresses.
By default, Hide My IP will use a random server location, but you can also manually select one of the available options. You can choose to always use the same IP, or discard a particular address with the same ease.
Note that, via the Hide My IP status bar menu, you can quickly check your IP (will launch a page in your default web browser), stop hiding the IP, change the IP, or copy the fake IP address to your clipboard.
Via the Hide My IP main window you can set the IP rotation frequency, if the IPs should repeat or not, if you want to use the TCP or UDP protocol, or if you need a US based IP. The utility is great whenever you need to bypass any geolocation limitations.
At the same time, routing your traffic through an encrypted server is also advisable if you are using unprotected Wi-Fi networks. However, make sure to read the Hide My IP privacy policy to learn how the service deals with your information.
Bottom line, Hide My IP is a small OS X application that enables you to quickly connect to a network of servers designed to help you protect your identity and block hacking attempts. Naturally, you can also use the service to eliminate any IPS or service based geolocation limitations.
