StackInbox is a Google Chrome add-on that will preserve the unread messages in your stack exchange inbox until you actually read them.

By default, the messages in your Stack Exchange inbox become 'read' when you simply view your inbox. The StackInbox add-on aims to change this behavior.

Installation:
· Download and unpack the ZIP extension
· Click Tools -> Extensions
· Make sure "Developer Mode" is checked
· Click "Load unpacked extension", then browse to the folder and click OK/Open.
· When prompted to install, click OK or install.

StackInbox is cross-platform and it works on Mac OS X, Windows and Linux.
