There is an interesting debate about whether torrents are good or bad and whether they represent legitimate sharing or theft. Nonetheless, if you are a person that appreciates the whole concept behind torrents, you will definitely love what BitCannon stands for.
BitCanon is a tool that enables you to import archives from torrent sites (e.g. Kickass, Demonoid) and access or download their backed up content via a clean and streamlined web interface.
Moreover, BitCannon can be easily considered a torrent site mirroring, index archiving, and browsing tool, with its main advantage being the fact that it enables you to access the contents of a backed up torrent search engine, regardless of its current online/offline status.
In order to start taking advantage of the useful features that BitCannon brings to the table, you must first download, install and run MongoDB, a high performance database that enables you to import and store the torrents indexed by various websites.
Once MongoDB is running on your Mac, you can start to download and extract the BitCannon package, and to run the binary by dragging and dropping it onto the Terminal window, followed by a tap on the ENTER key.
After the torrent archives are automatically or manually imported, the only thing left to do is to go to the http://127.0.0.1:1337 address using a web browser.
Now you are ready to start searching for the torrents that interest you via BitCannon's clean web-based interface that features a search bar and a top toolbar from where the Browse and About menus can be accessed.
The Browse menu provides you with the possibility to effortlessly browse and download torrents organized in categories like Books, TV, Movies, Applications, Music, Games, Anime, and Other.
Taking all things into consideration, BitCannon is a useful internet tool that provides a faster, better and more stable way to access and download torrents by browsing and searching through locally stored backups of torrent search engine websites.
Although it is a simple enough torrent search utility that is still in an early stage of development, we would have liked if BitCannon would have provided OS X users with a native installer that does not require them to use the Terminal to get it up and running.
However, the developer provides further and detailed documentation on how to install and run it on a Mac, on BitCannon's website.
